If places were books, Netala would be that rare timeless classic placed on a hard-to-reach shelf, in a bookshop that only eager bookworms make their way to. No attractive cover to grab attention, no reviews mentioned on its back cover, no catchy tagline, no popularity, not even a shred of well-deserved pride mentioned for admiration. Netala has altogether a different world to offer, a real world untainted by materialism. A small Himalayan village right on the banks of the river Ganga with no networks, no tourist traps, and a sky full of fresh mountain air. And the ice-cold waters of the Ganga, known as the Bhagirathi here, roaring past mountains elegantly dressed with evergreen trees. Home to handful of people and their animals, it has the air of a place that stayed true to what nature had intended for it, long before it got marked on a map. The Siror bridge, the Sivananda ashram and the villagers’ humble dwellings being a few signs of human culture dotting its terrain.
